Hi Folks,
First post on here for my third Discovery.
I’ve been trying to put on the detachable tow ball that came with the car. The key, turning wheel and ball bearings all seem to be working. When I turn the wheel to allow the tow ball to go all the way up in to the steel locator nothing happens. From videos etc and my old Disco I expected it to force the pin in and splay the ball bearings back out. Any suggestions on what I’m doing wrong?
Thanks

Hi there, i have the same issue with my 68 HSE.
The tow ball looks like it's never been on and tha garage i bought it off had no clue it was there.
All is good until it locates in the receiver, it clicks it holds there but the wheel does not spin back and sit flush with the tow ball, meaning it is not locked in position and it cannot be locked with the key.
Any ideas anyone

Hi - I've just picked up a Disco 5 (2019) and am having exactly the same issue with the towbar not fully engaging. It connects in and holds but doesn't fully spin and lock into place. Did you manage to find a solution?

In case anyone else stumbles across this problem i discovered it was caused by a very minor (hardly visible) build up of rust within the mounting socket. Possibly only 1-2mm thick, but enough to prevent the towbar going in sufficiently to lock properly. After a bit of rubbing with an emery cloth it cleared it and it now connects properly.
