Hi, I have recently bought a 2017 3 litre disco 5 with 100k miles on.

It came up with DPF filter full. Orange warning very quickly followed by the red full warning (minutes)
Independent landrover garage plugged in and found throttle body sticking so car would go into re-gen due to errors. Replaced throttle body at cost of £700.

Worked OK for less than 100 miles and engine management warning light came on again quickly followed by orange DPF warning light and quickly followed by red DPF full. Took back to garage who cleared faults and forced a regen.

Another 50 miles or so later same again. Could also smell exhaust gas and observed smoke coming from engine bay. After much searching found a 2 holes in the EGR bypass pipe. Replaced this at a cost of £1600 (needed to drop engine to gain access) also had burnt hole in timing belt cover so changed belt and cover while at it).

Guess what another 50 miles later same again. Garage is recommending a EGR delete (as car is now flagging up EGR fault codes) and a DPF clean.

Has anybody had a similar experience and has anybody done an EGR block and delete ?

Thanks
Chris

This morning I have got the above warning on the dash . What do I do to resolve the park brake fault, is an adjustment needed or are new shoes required? I have disengaged the park brake to allow me to move the car around.

I had a simlar issue, but no erg reports, Ive got iiD dongle & bluetooth to the phone. I think mine is the MAFT (Mass air flow and temperature), but im waiting for iiD to confirm if i'm reading the diagnostic correctly.

Having that experience right now.

You havent posted any fault codes so hard to pinpoint whats going on.

Mine is:

P049B: Exhaust Gas recirculation - B - Insufficant flow detected.

This can be anyting in the EGR system and DPF that is blocked or malfuntioning. B means the left hand side of the motor if in the car (right hand if looking from the front)

If the DPF is function ok, isnt full or cracked/broken then its a process of elimiation in the EGR system till its found. For mine they have thrown at it a new EGR cooler filter, exahust flap acutator, and now a new DPF and its still getting the amber engine light and fault code.

From here it looks like a replacement of EGR cooler or EGR valve itself. There is also a pressure sensor and oxygen sensor.

The problem with forced re-gens is it heats up the DPF more then usual to force the burn off. Too many of these can result in destroying the DPF.

One of the problems with the EGR/DPF is its a knock on effect. If EGR gets blocked it will effect the DPF which in turn effects the EGR and around and around it goes. Fixing one may result in needing to fix many.

Good luck!

I have just finbished removing & cleaning the egr valve, i did the right had side when viewing the car from the front as you say. When I just started it up, looks like a slight leak where it connects back into the exhaust, The IId tool, says - P045A-13 (27) EGR "B" Control Circuit - Open circuit, and P0407 - 16 (27) EGR sensonm "B" Circuit low, circuit Voltage below threshold. - I'm wondering if the gasket dropped out & I didnt notice. It was a pig to get back on

From the codes you reported:
- P045A-13 (27) EGR "B" Control Circuit - Open circuit
- P0407 - 16 (27) EGR sensonm "B" Circuit low, circuit Voltage below threshold
This would suggest to me that the EGR electrical connector either hasn't been plugged back in correctly or has broken continuity back to the Engine Control Unit.

I would suggest double checking that the EGR valve has been plugged back in securely to the electrical connector after you removed and cleaned it. Hopefully, those code should then go once the stored DTC's have been cleared on the scan tool that you have.

Hope that helps,
Sam

Sounds like your garage is chasing symptoms, not the root cause. Before you do an EGR delete (which can have implications for your warranty and emissions), I'd get a second opinion from a different Land Rover specialist. A persistent DPF issue after all that work suggests something else is fundamentally wrong.
